“Art enhances and celebrates my life”
Combining variable techniques enhances the detail and whimsical appearance of my work. I use wheel, slab, and hand building to create festive food ware, fountains, sculptures, home and garden accents. My vibrant and intense colors are obtained by hand painting the piece with under glazes up to twelve times prior to the first firing. I then repeat this process with additional firings and multiple applications of over glazes to create more color depth. Pushing a low fire process to temperatures of 2000 degrees produces a durable piece while maintaining the brilliant colors. I am inspired by the colors used by Georgia O’Keeffe and Frida Kahlo and their passion to create art.
Since I work independently in my studio I enjoy interacting with people at art fairs and exhibitions. I feel very successful when a child comes into my booth and belly laughs while playing in the fountains. Working as an artist with Artmix of Indiana allows me to combine my art and past nursing career by volunteering teaching clay at Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospital.
It is a gift to be able to make a living doing something I truly enjoy on all levels.
